Round 4

July 8, 2013 in Lymphoma by Jeffry Reed

I know….I’ve not done very well keeping up with this thing. Honestly have not had much to say, everything seems so routine by now. I have some big dates coming up though. First I’m back in the hospital (Room 719)  for my fourth round, so after this week I’ll be 50% done. It’s all down hill from here…..maybe. Why maybe?  Well, the PET scan will be next week. That is going to be the most major event in my life besides getting married and the birth of my son. Why? Because everything hinges on this PET scan. Am I getting better? Worse? Is the tumor dying? Is it dead? Do I continue as I am or do we make changes? It’s a big deal and I’m a little anxious over it.

Some info…

CT scan (Computed Tomography) and PET scan (Positron Emission Tomography) are different but related imaging techniques. A PET scan uses nuclear medicine imaging to produce a three-dimensional picture of functional processes in the body. PET scans provide metabolic information and are increasingly read alongside CT or MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) scans, which provide anatomic information.

So anyhow I’m back in ready to start my Methotrexate and Cytarabine …..not really ready because I really hate this stuff and it makes me really sick…but it is what it is and it’s a step closer to getting back to work and my life.

I wanted to update the blog last week but for whatever reason I started throwing up Thursday, was sick as hell Friday, wanted to crawl under a rock Saturday and started to feel better on Sunday. Just in time to get more chemo. It had been about 14 days since the Red Devil was put in two Thursdays ago and I guess it’s possible for it to take that long to get to you according to some of the nurses and Dr. Oommen, my oncologist.

So um…crap. I never know with this stuff.

I guess that’s it for now. I’m drinking water and apple juice to get my PH levels to the right level so I can get this chemo started.
