Back in the hospital…

… and back in the room he was in the first time – 724.

Jeff awoke this morning not feeling well. He felt feverish and took a Levaquin.  At about 11:00 this morning, I looked at him and he was under two blankets and shivering. He was also out of breath. His temp was up to 102.4, so I called Dr. Oommen’s nurse. She told me to give him Tylenol and keep the appointment we had for today. By the time we saw Dr. Oommen at about 1:30, his temp had come down to 99.1, but Dr. Oommen wanted him in the hospital on IV antibiotics for three days. He also said he heard some crackles in one of his lungs. Jeff’s body is definitely fighting a bug.

So this is what Jeff looks like on Vancomycin.

I actually watched as the red patches started filling in all over his head. He has had red splotches before just by putting his hand against his head for a few minutes. But this was different. It was spreading. I was about to get a nurse when Dr. Oommen stopped by. He said it is a known possible reaction to Vancomycin – red man syndrome or red neck syndrome. Well, DUH! We all know he’s a red neck! 😛

Red-neck Jeff.

About 25 minutes passed and the redness had spread further down his face.  The nurses are keeping a good eye on him and will give him Benadryl if it goes beyond redness.

Jeff said his chest x-ray showed some fluid on the left lung and this should clear with the antibiotics. In addition to the Vancomycin, he also got Bactrim. Not sure what else is on the antibiotic menu, but they’ll definitely kick that bug’s arse.
