Been a while

May 31, 2013 in Lymphoma by Jeffry Reed

I’m doing well. Had long weeks and good weeks.

The danger is that even when I feel great, my white blood cell count is super low. My neutrophils were at zero. Those are the most abundant types of white blood cells in mammals and form an essential part of the innate immune system. I cannot stress the importance of staying healthy. If I get sick just once it will set the whole program back. I’ll have to go back to the hospital and it will throw my schedule off and delay the day I can come back to work.

So I am basically holed up in my house after chemo. Once my immune system rebounds, I can go back for more chemo treatment and I can visit people in the hospital. It’s the best time to see me because that is when my immune system is the healthiest. After treatment, I’m in quarantine. And believe me I’m playing it safe. As long as I don’t get sick, we stay on schedule and this will be over sooner than later.

So for now, I’m back in the hospital,  room 737 for second round of chemo:

Cycle 2,4,6,8 (3-4 wks/cycle)
Methotrexate (MTX) 200 mg/m2 iv over 2 hrs followed by 800 mg/m2 civi over 22 hrs d1
Cytarabine (Ara-C) 3 g/m2 (1 g/m2 for patients over 60 years old) iv over 2 hrs q12 hrs x 4 doses d2-3
Leucovorin 50 mg iv q6 hrs starting 12 hrs after completion of MTX till MTX level < 0.05 uM

I should be out Sunday…I May need a ride home.

Reta took the girls to Alex’s graduation present…A-Kon in Dallas. It’s an Anime’ convention and  honestly I think Reta would rather change places with me for the weekend lol. We had this planned for months and knowing Alex, she won’t want to leave until the last booth closes.

Really not much more to report. We sold my truck and bought a cheap car. Cost is $220 a month cheaper since it’s just going to sit in the driveway. Traded in Reta’s car and saved $110 a month on that as well so $330 a month in savings is going to help for going on long term disability that only pays 60%. I’ll call the cable company and wipe that out as well and live off Netflix and Amazon for a while. Did you know our home phone only costs $4.67 a month with Ooma? And we were able to keep our old phone number! I’ve had it for over two years so I know it works.  If you are paying for home phone and you have cable internet you should call me and ask about it. I don’t get anything for referring you but you could be saving a lot of money. It’s cheaper than Vonage and all those other options you see in commercials.

My mom is driving down from Washington (State) and will be here on June 10. That will excite things up a bit. She has enough energy for ten of us, and she is a certified cordon bleu chef so any small weight loss I have gained will be wiped out in a few days. Plus they are tanking me full of Steroids again. My gawd I hate that crap. Makes you not sleep and you want to eat EVERYTHING. So on steroids with my mom cooking…ugh. I’m going to look like a blimp.

Wish I had more to share…when I’m not doing a lot there just isn’t much to talk about.
